Julie Mickschl Biography
Assistant Director, EVBA

I started playing volleyball in middle school. I played throughout high school, both for my school team, the River Valley Blackhawks and for two club teams, Western Elite and Wisconsin Select. I started competitive play as a middle hitter in 7th grade and continued to play that position through high school and into college.

In 1999, I attended UW-La Crosse to become a physical education teacher and decided to play volleyball while I was earning my bachelors degree. My freshman year I made the varsity team and continued to play the next four years.

I teach elementary physical education at Highlands Elementary in Edina. My coaching experience in volleyball includes high school level coaching for the past 4 out of 5 years.

I am currently the Junior Varsity volleyball coach in Edina. I have also coached JO volleyball through the EVBA for the past two seasons and have helped out with multiple volleyball camps over the years at a mixture of different clubs, high schools and colleges in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I have a strong passion for coaching which strongly compleiments my career passion for teaching. I believe they are very similar fields. I want my players to become the best players they can be. They need to develop skills in all areas and learn how to use their strengths. I think sports are a great way for an athlete to gain skills they can take away from the court. Determination, teamwork, confidence, persistence, hard work, and respect can all be achieved through playing a sport.
